Here's how to play the old games on PC
So as you may (or may not, I have no means as of the moment I'm writing this to tell) know, I recently posted two things here:
-> A screenshot of the (only) SR-71 in Ace Combat 5
-> Beautiful screenshots of Ace Combat Zero in 1080p
Some (a lot) of people asked me HOW I managed to play the games on PC.
This is a complete tutorial, built from the ground, so that even the most computer illiterate people can play the game and understand what's going on.
This guide will be divided in 3 parts:
I] What is emulation?
II] Setting everything up
III] Some tips
So, let's start shall we!
PART I - THE BASICS OF EMULATION
'emulation' You've been hearing this for ages (maybe) but you don't know what it is. Since this is the basics of what we're about to do, let's take a while and explain what it is.
Emulating, according to Wikipedia, is:
In computing, an emulator is hardware or software that enables one computer system (called the host) to behave like another computer system (called the guest). An emulator typically enables the host system to run software or use peripheral devices designed for the guest system.
There are two states you can be in right now: You're either even more confused, or trying to figure out how this is useful.
Let's analyse this:
an emulator is hardware or software that enables one computer system (called the host)
Your computer is the 'host'.
to behave like another computer system (called the guest)
The Playstation 2 that will run as another software will be called the guest.
An emulator typically enables the host system to run software or use peripheral devices designed for the guest system.
Yes. There will be a window on your desktop, just like your web browser. This window is a 'virtual' or 'fake' screen that is connected to a 'fake' playstation 2.
Why don't we just run the software from the PS2 on the PC? Download game pubg pc windows 7 free.
I'm glad you asked! To answer this question, I'll need to explain something else: compiling.

A long time ago, back when computers were less powerful than a calculator, a lot of different companies tried to make their CPU (a CPU is the part of the computer that executes instructions).
The problem is that their CPU understood their proprietary instructions. As an example, a program written for a CPU made by A will not run on a CPU made by B.
Since then, things have changed. But there are still a few different 'instruction sets'.
To prevent software from being used on other devices, people prefer to use non-standars instruction sets. The Playstation 2, if I recall correctly, is using the Power-PC (or PPC) instruction set, while 99% of the computers here are using the i386 or amd64 instruction sets.
There are also A LOT of other hardware reasons, but this is the main reason.
Emulating will mainly consist of 'interpreting' (in our case, recompiling because it is faster) the instructions, from PPC to i386.

PART II - SETTING EVERYTHING UP
I am sorry for all the MacOS users here. I, unfortunately, have no experience with it. Therefore, the installation steps will only be explained for Linux and Windows operating systems.
Step 1: Easy installation
This 'easy' installation is for the average person, who wants to play quickly. We will install the PCSX2 emulator, which is the best (if not only) PS2 emulator out there.
**Arch Linux: ** Fire up your terminal and use pacman to install the pcsx2 package (sudo pacman -S pcsx2)
***buntu: ** Fire up your terminal and kindly ask aptitude to install pcsx2. (sudo apt-get install pcsx2)
**Windows: ** Download this
(the 'hard' installation will be explained later)
Step 2: Getting familiar with PCSX2 (Windows only)
Since Windows, unlike Linux, does not install/configure everything with a single command, we have to do everything manually (what a shame Microsoft).
You should have downloaded a file. I suggest you use Winrar to open it. Inside this archive is a folder, move that folder to your desktop and rename it to whatever you want.
This folder contains everything your need to play the game. It's basically a Playstation 2.
But.. to play I need other things!
Yes, that is, as a matter of fact, true. You can't play a game if you only have the PS2. Here is what we need:
-> The game
-> The software in the console (called BIOS)
-> the controller
-> the screen
For the game, we're going to talk about that later. I assume you already have a controller (if not, you can use your keyboard). For the screen, you will be using your computer screen.
But.. what about the BIOS?
There ya go buddy, download it
Put the folder that it contains in your PCSX2 folder, or whatever you renamed it into.
Good! We're now the happy owners of a perfectly working virtual console!
The hard way
I told you about the hard way earlier. The hard way is dedicated to people who want every possible bit of performance they can get.
It is dedicated to developpers, or programmers. It consists of downloading the source code from the git repo (linked from here) and compiling it.
If you don't know how to do that, don't worry. The performance gain is not worth the hassle.
Step 3: Starting the PS2
Since Windows, unlike Linux, doesn't install required programs automatically, you have to do it yourself. You have to install this. (Again, what a shame Microsoft)
The Unsung War Mp3
Now navigate to your PCSX2 folder, and launch it, or if you're on Linux, look at your installed applications!
Do you see it? Yes. The window that just opened. How wonderful right? That's our console! It is a perfectly working PlayStation 2!
But there is nothing..
Oh right, first time configuration.. Try to touch as few stuff as possible, and if it asks for the BIOS, click 'browse' and navigate to your BIOS folder! You should see a list of all the diferent files!
Wait.. Japan.. Europe.. WHAT?
Yes. If you pick the Japanese BIOS, you'll be able to play japan-only games. The same applies to other regions. How amazing right!
Pick up your BIOS. I, as an European person, am using the 2.0 Europe BIOS. But hey, you can use the others too.
You should now have a window. Yes, that's it. That's your console!

There you are. That's it.
No! I need my games! Danielle steel ebooks pdf free download.
